Walking

ready, set, hike!

Hiking is one of the most popular summer activities in Austria, and we understand why! From the chalet, you can walk straight into the beautiful countryside.

The Hochkönig region boasts no fewer than 340 kilometers of beautiful hiking trails of varying difficulty, duration, and themes (think trails to discover local herbs, special routes for children, or a spot of geocaching). The 73-kilometer Königsweg hike is the most popular multi-day route in this region.

With the Hochkönig Card, which is included in your stay, you have free access to the Wanderbus (hiking bus) and the cable cars in summer.

Biking

I want to ride my bicycle

Cycling through the Austrian Alps is a truly unforgettable experience. Explore the Hochkönig by mountain bike, road bike, or e-bike and discover the most idyllic spots.

Will you choose a challenging route or prefer a relaxed ride? Everything is possible! The many routes lead you through the most beautiful scenery, and you'll feel like you're the only one in the world. Enjoy the most stunning panoramas while the cooling mountain air blows through your hair. In summer, you can take your bike up on the cable car, so you can cycle downhill right away!

The Hochkönig is the perfect place for a family holiday, not only in winter, but especially in summer. From young to old, there's something for everyone!

In summer, the Hochkönig mountains are transformed into true play paradises for children. Mühlbach, Dienten, and Maria Alm each have their own specialties. Take the cable car up from one of these locations (free with the Hochkönig Card!) and there's plenty to discover.

While you, the parent, enjoy a cappuccino on the terrace, the kids can have a wonderful time.

Play in the water and sand playground, play marbles on a 2km-long marble trail, swing on giant swings, climb in a real treetop adventure park, or take a refreshing dip in a mountain lake. It's all possible!

Going back down? Then take the mountain cart or go via the slide course (also for older children 😉).

There's plenty to do in the Hochkönig area! Here are a few of our favorites:

The Liechtensteinklamm in St. Johann im Pongau offers a beautiful hike through one of the longest and deepest gorges in the Alps, with stunning waterfalls along the way. Very impressive and a fun outing for the whole family!

Hohenwerfen Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Austria and is just a stone's throw from the chalet. In summer, there are regular fun activities for the whole family.

The Eisriesenwelt Ice Cave in Werfen is the world's largest ice cave. Here you can admire gigantic ice sculptures, glittering crystals, and million-year-old rock formations.

Seen enough and ready for some action? Spend an afternoon tobogganing in Saalfelden! The Biberg summer toboggan run is 1.6 kilometers long, and you can enjoy the beautiful nature around you along the way.

From the Hochkönig, you can travel from unspoiled nature to the bustling city in no time. Below are our favorites.

The beautiful city of Salzburg is just a 45-minute drive away. We think it's absolutely worth a visit! Stroll through the old streets and atmospheric squares in Mozart's birthplace, spend a day shopping in the luxury boutiques, or enjoy a bite to eat and a drink in one of the many cozy bistros. Something for everyone!

Going the other way, you'll arrive in the always bustling Zell am See. This charming little town on a beautiful lake is truly picture-perfect in the summer! Sit on a terrace in the sunshine, stroll through the streets, or take a canoe or boat out onto the water. A truly wonderful place to enjoy a summer day with the whole family!
