Hiking is one of the most popular summer activities in Austria, and we completely understand why! From the chalet, you can step right into nature and start exploring.

The Hochkönig region boasts an impressive 340 kilometers of hiking trails, offering routes of varying difficulty levels, duration, and themes. Whether you want to explore local herbs, follow special trails designed for kids, or go on a geocaching adventure, there’s something for everyone. The 73-kilometer Königsweg is the most famous multi-day hike in this region.

With the Hochkönig Card, which is included in your stay, you get free access to the Wanderbus (hiking bus) and cable cars during the summer.

Cycling through the Austrian Alps is a truly unforgettable experience. Explore Hochkönig by mountain bike, road bike, or e-bike and discover the most picturesque spots.

Do you prefer a challenging route, or would you rather take a leisurely ride? Everything is possible! The many cycling trails take you through breathtaking landscapes, making you feel like you're in a world of your own. Enjoy stunning panoramic views while the refreshing mountain air rushes through your hair. During the summer, you can even take your bike up the mountain with the cable car and enjoy an exciting downhill ride!

In summer, the Hochkönig mountains transform into real adventure playgrounds for kids. Mühlbach, Dienten, and Maria Alm each have their own specialties. Take the cable car at one of these locations (free with the Hochkönig Card!), and there’s plenty to discover.

While parents enjoy a cappuccino on the terrace, the kids will have a blast.

Play in the water and sand playground, race marbles down a 2 km-long marble hiking trail, swing on giant swings, climb in a treetop adventure park, or cool off with a swim in a mountain lake – it’s all possible!

Heading back down? Try a mountain cart ride or take the slide trail (also fun for big kids 😉).

The Liechtensteinklamm in St. Johann im Pongau offers a stunning hike through one of the longest and deepest gorges in the Alps, featuring breathtaking waterfalls along the way. A great adventure for the whole family!

Schloss Hohenwerfen is one of Austria’s most beautiful castles and is just a short distance from the chalet. In summer, the castle hosts fun activities for all ages.

The Eisriesenwelt Ice Cave in Werfen is the largest ice cave in the world. Here, you can admire gigantic ice sculptures, shimmering crystals, and million-year-old rock formations.

Had enough sightseeing and ready for some action? Try summer tobogganing in Saalfelden! The Biberg summer toboggan run is 1.6 kilometers long, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape as you race down.

From Hochkönig, you can easily switch from unspoiled nature to vibrant city life in no time. Here are our top picks.

Just a 45-minute drive away lies the stunning city of Salzburg, an absolute must-visit! Stroll through the historic streets and charming squares of Mozart’s birthplace, enjoy a day of shopping in luxury boutiques, or savor a delicious meal in one of the many cozy bistros. There’s something for everyone!

Head in the opposite direction, and you’ll reach Zell am See, a lively lakeside town. This charming little city, located on the shores of a stunning lake, is breathtaking in summer. Relax on a sunny terrace, wander through quaint streets, or rent a canoe or boat and set off on the water. A perfect place to enjoy a summer day with the whole family!
