House book

Welcome to Pillows & Pines!

We are Martijn & Iris, and together with our three children (James, Scottie & Parker), we have been huge fans of Austria for years. With its beautiful nature, the fresh mountain air, and the countless family activities in both winter and summer, this wonderful country truly stole our hearts.

When we came across this chalet in mid-2023, we knew immediately: THIS IS IT!

Our dream came true, and we are thrilled to share it with you as our guests.

The Hochkönig region is truly a fantastic area for an active winter or summer holiday with families and friends. Skiing, tobogganing, hiking, cycling, or playing in one of the many playgrounds: there's something for everyone. And then come home to a chalet that exudes peace, relaxation, and the feeling of enjoying life together.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Feel at home, go on an adventure together, and enjoy!

Love, Martijn, Iris, James, Scottie & Parker

A fireplace adds extra ambiance and warmth to the lodge. For your safety, we ask that you only use the fireplace as described below:

  • Read the instructions carefully before use for proper use of the fireplace, please refer to the chalet manual.
  • Use only dry firewood provided by us. Do not use your own wood, paper, oil-based firelighters, or other materials.

  • Don't stoke the fire too high with too many logs. This can cause a chimney fire.
  • Always leave the fireplace burning with an open air supply and only close it when the fire is completely out.

  • Never leave the fire unattended. Extinguish it completely before going to bed or leaving the lodge.

  • Ensure adequate ventilation (e.g. sliding door left ajar) during use.

  • Keep children and pets away from the fireplace.

  • Never place anything on or against the fireplace. This also applies to clothing, wood, or decorations.

  • Do not throw waste into fire.

  • Use the fireplace only as intended. Do not light a fire outside the fireplace (not even in a fire pit).

If you have any doubts or questions, please always contact the chalet manager.

Enjoy the fire – but do it safely. 🔥

Please read the instructions carefully, and if you have any doubts or questions, please feel free to contact Snejana.

There's a wood-burning stove in the living room. Follow the instructions below to use it safely:

  • Remove the ash (if necessary).

  • Never block the air intake.

  • Remove all objects from the top of the fireplace.

  • Open the air valve fully (towards the +, on the left side).

  • Stack 3 or 4 pieces of dry wood crosswise in the fireplace, leaving plenty of space between them. Fill any gaps with small pieces of wood and light them.

  • Use only dry wood – no wet wood or other materials. This can cause a chimney fire.

  • Leave the door open until the fire is burning well and the smoke is flowing away through the chimney.

    • If this doesn't happen, don't use the fireplace: there may be a problem with the chimney or the weather. Extinguish the fire immediately.

  • Once the fire is burning well (yellow flames, not blue), you can close the door and reduce the air supply slightly if necessary.

  • Never close the air supply completely – this can lead to smoke backfire or flash fire.

  • Open the fireplace door only to add wood.

  • Be careful of sparks.

  • Do not touch the heater (it gets hot!) and keep children away.

After use:

  • Allow the fire to burn out naturally with the air supply open and the door closed.

  • Never extinguish with water – this may cause an explosion or damage.

  • Ashes should not be removed until they have completely cooled.

  • Please dispose of cooled ashes in the green container or in the grey waste bins (under the sink or in the ski room).

  • Never use a vacuum cleaner to remove ash.

In case of fire:

  • Use sand, a fire extinguisher or a fire blanket.

  • In case of a sudden loud noise in the chimney (possible chimney fire):

    • Immediately close the air supply (right)

    • Extinguish the fire with dry sand or salt

  • Call the fire brigade immediately: 122

⚠️ Use of the fireplace is at your own risk. Pillows & Pines is not liable for damage or injury resulting from (incorrect or careless) use.

The sauna is located on the ground floor. Please follow the instructions for safe use:

  • On the left of the panel you will see three buttons:

    • Top button: sets the time (default 2 hours, press = extend time)
