Our chalet is located in the village of Mühlbach am Hochkönig, which is part of the Hochkönig ski area, named after the mighty 3000 meter high Hochkönig massif. The ski area has 120 km of slopes for skiers of all levels, first-class snow and fun parks and of course several cozy ski huts to relax and enjoy the view. The Königstour in the Hochkönig ski area is one of the most impressive ski tours in the Alps, with beautiful alpine panoramas overlooking the Hochkönig and the Steinernes Meer. The tour offers a breathtaking 6 peaks, 35 km of uninterrupted slopes and 7,500 vertical meters. The snow record is impressive, the area is known locally as the “snow hole” because the Hochkönig mountain has a high snowfall.

The nearest ski lift (Karbachalmbahn) is just a 5-minute drive from the chalet or a short ride on the (free) ski bus, which stops a 5-minute walk from the chalet.

The Hochkönig ski area is centrally located in Ski Amadé, the second largest ski area in Europe. It offers 760 km of ski slopes within the 5 areas: Hochkönig, Gasteinertal, Salzburger Sportwelt, Schladming-Dachstein and Grossarltal. 90% of the slopes in Ski Amadé have snow cannons. You can enjoy all ski areas with just one ski pass.

Near the chalet there is also a smaller ski area: Hochkeil (10 minutes drive from the chalet or 20 minutes by ski bus). This area is great for children and beginners, but it also has a number of red runs and is popular for its off-piste areas in good snow conditions. This area is included in your Hochkönig ski pass, but another (and cheaper) ski pass is also available for just this area.

The Hochkönig area is also part of the enormous Salzburg Super Ski ski area. This region includes other well-known Austrian ski areas such as Kitzbühel, Saalbach/Hinterglemm, Zell am Zee, Kaprun, Obertauern and Zillertall Arena, totaling more than 2,500 km of slopes and 750 lifts. The Salzburger SuperSki Pass is available as an alternative to the Hochkönig or Ski Amadé Pass.

Breathe in the fresh mountain air and admire the mountain panoramas while cross-country skiing on the perfectly prepared slopes. Ski Amadé offers 714 km of cross-country ski trails through an astonishingly beautiful mountain landscape.

Although cross-country skiing is an endurance sport, both beginners and advanced skiers will find the perfect slopes in Ski Amadé. Maria Alm in Hochkönig also offers a night route.

In the high season on Wednesdays you can go into the mountains in the evening. The Tiergartenalm and the Zapferalm keep their doors open, so you can enjoy a tasty meal or a drink.

Ski tours in the Hochkönig region are a great experience! The options for touring are numerous: sunsets and ski tours under the stars are offered on selected slopes, guided ski tours on the Hundstein (Europe's highest grass mountain), and a huge area where you can tour alone through the deep snow-covered slopes away from all the hustle and bustle. And all this is offered in the middle of an unparalleled mountain panorama.

With 400 hotspots, Ski Amadé's free WiFi covers almost the entire region. The best reception is usually found in lift stations and mountain huts, close to the hotspots.

Be one with nature and explore the well-maintained winter hiking trails. You will unravel the magic of Hochkönig's Winter Wonderland while walking.

With snowshoes you can explore untouched nature, away from the slopes, and collect unique impressions. Tours of varying difficulty levels and lengths are available in Ski Amadé. The routes are generally well signposted and therefore ideal for all fitness levels.

Tobogganing is a great experience for young and old. From a romantic ride for two under the stars to fun with the whole family, everything is possible in Ski Amadé and you shouldn't miss a toboggan trip on one of the many natural slopes. The toboggan runs run through picturesque winter landscapes and past unique backdrops, many toboggan runs are illuminated and have their own sleds for rent.

The toboggan run at Hochkeil (10 minutes' drive from the Wanderfalk Lodge) is a natural 4.5 km long descent and is one of the longest runs. It starts near Alpengasthof Kopphütte.
